THE GENERAL STORE AND POST OFFICE
There haven’t been many shops in Clarendon, although the street did once boast two butcher shops, a boot shop, a greengrocer, several bakeries and a small jam factory and store. Thomas and Ellen Fox established the earliest general store in 1858. Its initial site is unknown. The present General Store commenced trade circ. 1911. Each new proprietor adds some distinct new service for the locals, but the character of the shop remains old world, warm and inviting. It now provides the post office, hairdresser, refreshments, newsagent, delicatessen and groceries.
The General Store is in the main street. The store and the post office are open 362 days a year. Takeaway food, a full supply of deli items, a range of supermarket products and kitchen craftware. Proprietors Gavin and Lauren Fischer always make you feel welcome. (08) 8383 6020
